A tragic incident unfolded at a military summer camp in Mexico where a 13-year-old girl, Dafne Zapata Quintos MartÃnez, passed away under mysterious circumstances. The girl’s family was kept from communicating with her during the camp, receiving updates on her well-being through the staff instead.
Dafne arrived at the Marina Doenitz Military Academy on July 13. Four days into the camp, her mother, Alejandra Quintos, received the devastating news of her daughter’s death from the academy. According to Alejandra, Dafne had experienced health issues during the camp, including vomiting and fainting during physical activities.
Despite being informed that Dafne had received medical attention and was improving, her condition worsened, with symptoms like coughing, vomiting, and incontinence reported on July 17. Minutes later, Alejandra was informed of Dafne’s passing.
Allegations emerged from a fellow camper claiming Dafne had been mistreated, pushed, and subjected to harsh punishments. The girl stated that Dafne had sustained injuries to her face and had been treated unfairly.
Parents of other campers visited the academy after Dafne’s death, with some children providing statements to authorities. Claims of forced drug consumption and physical abuse among students surfaced, which the academy’s director, Jorge Luis Ponce Ortega, denied. He stated that Dafne had an undisclosed medical condition and collapsed while showering.
Dafne’s death was attributed to asphyxia from submersion, as per her death certificate. Her family plans to conduct an independent autopsy to seek clarity on the circumstances surrounding her passing. The Tamaulipas Prosecutor’s Office has initiated an investigation, sealing off the academy building as part of the process.
A tribute to Dafne highlighted her love for animals, particularly her dogs, and her mother expressed determination to seek justice for her daughter.
