The sibling of a woman who was fatally stabbed while sleeping next to her husband and infant has shared the profound sorrow their family is experiencing. The family, residing in India, expressed gratitude for the vigils held in west London, finding solace in the communal support as they await the repatriation of Kirandeep Kaur’s remains. Kirandeep, a 24-year-old, tragically lost her life in her residence on Uxbridge Road in Hayes on July 12.
Speaking through an interpreter from their residence in Punjab, Kirandeep’s elder brother, Paljinder Singh, highlighted the significance of the gatherings held in honor of Kirandeep, mentioning that it has been a source of comfort during this trying time. He lamented, “Had we foreseen the tragedy, we would have never allowed her to leave.”
The family’s hope now rests on bringing Kirandeep’s body back to India for a final farewell. Singh expressed his desire, stating, “Although I will never hear her voice again, I yearn for one last glimpse of her.”
Having relocated to the UK two years ago to pursue studies at Buckinghamshire New University and subsequently securing employment at a local grocery store after plans to settle in Canada unraveled, Kirandeep’s family in Tarn Taran, Punjab, never envisioned London becoming her permanent home.
Reflecting on Kirandeep’s departure just two years prior, Singh lamented, “We never anticipated that she would not return.” He fondly remembered her as a kind-hearted individual, revered by all in their village. He added, “She embodied kindness and was always willing to assist others. Her presence brought joy, but now, everything has changed irreversibly. Her memory will forever remain etched in my heart.”
The tragic incident spurred a wave of marches and vigils across west London, where community members paid tribute to the young graduate and stood in solidarity with her family.
Despite the geographical distance, Singh acknowledged the outpouring of support with gratitude, stating, “We deeply appreciate the vigils and the unity shown in rallying around the cause. Our hope is that no other family will have to endure such a tragedy.”
Daniel Sean James, a resident of west London, faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and possession of a bladed weapon. Authorities allege that he assaulted Kirandeep at her residence before fleeing through a window, sustaining injuries in the process. James was subsequently apprehended by law enforcement nearby.
Appearing at the Old Bailey via videolink from Wormwood Scrubs, James was remanded in custody by Judge Nigel Lickley KC. He is scheduled to enter his pleas on October 1.
