The family of Henry Nowak, a murdered teenager, has released a statement following the imprisonment of Vickrum Digwa’s mother for removing the knife used in the killing of the 18-year-old from the crime scene. Kiran Kaur, residing on St Denys Road in Southampton, was sentenced to three years in prison at Southampton Crown Court for aiding an offender by taking the weapon to the family home on the night of the incident on December 3, 2025.
Expressing their disappointment with the sentencing, Henry’s family emphasized their commitment to seeking justice for their son. Despite accepting the court’s decision, they continue to push for a thorough investigation to uncover the complete truth surrounding the events of last December.
Vickrum Digwa, aged 23, received a life sentence with a minimum term of 21 years on June 1 for the murder of Henry, a finance student at the University of Southampton. Digwa falsely accused Henry of racial abuse.
During the trial, it was revealed that the murder weapon, a knife, was recovered from CCTV footage and identified by investigators about a week after Henry’s tragic death. Prosecutor Nicholas Lobbenberg KC highlighted the crucial role played by Kaur in removing the weapon while the police were approaching the scene, leading to hindrances in the investigation process.
In the sentencing, Judge William Mousley KC criticized Kaur for her actions, stating that a responsible parent would have confronted their child and encouraged them to do the right thing. Kaur’s defense lawyer, Mark Watson, argued that her actions were impulsive rather than premeditated, emphasizing her positive character before the incident and requesting a suspended sentence.
Despite the circumstances, Kaur, supported by a Punjabi interpreter, displayed emotion during her mitigation in court. A full inquest into Henry’s tragic death is scheduled to take place in Winchester next year.
