Prince Harry shared his thoughts on England’s World Cup defeat during a surprise appearance at a red carpet event in New York City. The Duke of Sussex attended TIME‘s 100 Most Influential People in Sports event, where he was commended for founding the Invictus Games.
During the gathering, Harry was questioned about England’s loss in the World Cup semifinals to Argentina, to which he openly expressed his sadness. Meanwhile, his brother, Prince William, also expressed disappointment over the outcome but praised the team’s exceptional performance throughout the tournament.
Being honored by TIME for his efforts with the Invictus Games, Harry emphasized the transformative power of sports in changing lives, leading him to expand the competition internationally. He recently visited the UK to mark the countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, accompanied by his wife Meghan Markle and their children.
The royal family reunion in the UK, hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove, marked a significant occasion as it was the first time the monarch had met Archie and Lilibet in over four years. The visit also marked Meghan and Harry’s first joint trip to the UK since attending Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.
