Heatwave to Cool: UK Set for Temperature Drop

Advanced weather prediction models indicate that the ongoing heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 30C for most of the month, is likely to culminate in a significant drop in temperatures soon.

According to forecasts from the Met Office, southern UK regions are expected to maintain peak temperatures of 30C or higher until at least Friday, while northern areas could see temperatures peak at 28C or above during the same period.

However, projections suggest a decline in temperatures over the upcoming weekend. The ECMWF weather model anticipates morning temperatures dropping as low as 6C in certain parts of Scotland on Sunday. In northern England, some areas might experience temperatures as low as 7C on Sunday morning, while the warmest morning temperatures are forecasted to reach 15C-16C in the southwest.

By midday on Sunday, the ECMWF model projects peak temperatures of only 17C in southern England, a significant contrast to the recent scorching conditions. Wales is expected to reach 15C, with the Midlands and Northern Ireland experiencing temperatures around 13C.

Temperature anomaly maps for Sunday suggest most of the UK, except the southwest, will have temperatures below the seasonal average, indicated by the color blue. The ECMWF model indicates that 27 counties could witness temperatures below 10C on Sunday morning, mainly in Scotland and northern England.

The Met Office predicts a gradual decline in temperatures starting from Saturday as strong breezes move towards northern regions. Conditions are expected to be less hot than in recent days from Sunday onwards.

The Met Office’s forecast for July 19 to July 28 foresees predominantly dry weather across most of the country due to high pressure remaining near the UK. Although air from the North Atlantic will result in cooler temperatures compared to recent days, any showers are more likely in the far north.
