“UK Heatwave to Persist: Scorching Temperatures Expected”

Scorching weather conditions across the UK are expected to persist “until at least next week,” as stated by the Met Office. The ongoing British heatwave is projected to continue for the upcoming days, with temperatures in parts of England and Wales anticipated to surpass 30C on Sunday and throughout the following week.

Although there is a possibility of thunderstorms in southern regions from Monday onwards, most areas are predicted to remain dry, sunny, and extremely hot in the days ahead. Yelverton, Devon, recorded a provisional high temperature of 33C on Saturday, marking 2026 as the first year to witness temperatures exceeding 35C on six separate days, surpassing the previous records set by 1976 and 2020 with five days each.

Additionally, 2026 has become the initial year to observe temperatures of 35C or higher across three calendar months, breaking the record for the highest number of temperatures reaching 34C or above, totaling nine occurrences so far this summer. Authorities have issued warnings regarding the “extreme” risk of wildfires over the weekend, with the London Fire Brigade cautioning against the use of disposable barbecues due to the dry heat elevating fire hazards.

As the heatwave persists, emergency services have emphasized the importance of responsible behavior, urging the public to only dial 999 in cases of immediate danger or criminal activities. Craig Snell, a Met Office forecaster, highlighted that temperatures remaining well above average will continue across the UK.

In light of the high UV levels during this period, the Met Office advised the public to use sun protection when outdoors. Water firms have implemented hosepipe bans in several regions due to the strain on water supplies following successive heatwaves and a record warm spring in England and Wales. These restrictions aim to conserve water resources and ensure sustainable usage during the ongoing hot spell.
