A fresh plea has been made regarding the case of a young mother who was killed following a David Bowie concert at Slane Castle almost four decades ago. Antoinette Smith vanished after attending the concert in Co Meath on July 11, 1987. The body of the 27-year-old mother of two was discovered nine months later in a drain on Glendoo Mountain in Co Wicklow.
Post-concert, they returned to Dublin by bus and visited La Mirage Discotheque in Parnell Square. While at the club, they encountered two acquaintances, staying until they departed around 2 am. Ms. Smith’s friend separated from the group after leaving the club, while Ms. Smith and the two men lingered before heading to a taxi stand on O’Connell Street.
The men took a taxi to the Ballymun area, while Ms. Smith continued walking towards O’Connell Street Bridge by the Gresham Hotel. Her husband reported her missing subsequently. Ms. Smith’s daughters Lisa and Rachel were seven and four years old respectively when she disappeared.
Bray Garda Station officials are using the anniversary to renew their call for public assistance. They urge anyone with relevant information to step forward, emphasizing that people’s connections and relationships from decades ago could have evolved. Authorities assure that all contributors to the investigation will be handled with sensitivity.
