“Child Survives Crocodile Attack, Thrives in Recovery”

The parents of a young child, who was reportedly thrown into a crocodile enclosure, shared that their son has recently undergone his sixth surgery along with skin grafts. The three-year-old is currently in stable condition at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where he has been receiving treatment for the past three weeks. Despite still experiencing limited movement in some fingers, the family expressed relief that he is now smiling again.

In an update posted on GoFundMe, the parents mentioned the successful outcome of the latest surgery, highlighting the positive progress in their son’s recovery. They praised the medical staff at Addenbrooke’s for their efforts in bringing joy to their child during his hospital stay, including dressing up as his favorite superheroes. The family expressed gratitude for the support and kindness shown by the hospital team.

The child, whose identity has not been disclosed, sustained injuries, including a broken arm and pelvis, at Johnsons of Old Hurst in Cambridgeshire on June 18. The owners of the zoo, Andy and Tracey Johnson, along with their son Edward, bravely intervened to rescue the child from the crocodile enclosure. A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the incident but was later released on bail due to his mental incapacity.

An online fundraiser was initiated to assist the child in his physical and emotional recovery, which has raised over £62,000 so far. The parents expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received, acknowledging a touching gesture from a young girl and her grandmother who sent a superhero costume to uplift the child’s spirits.

While celebrating small victories in the recovery process, the parents acknowledged the long road ahead due to nerve and tendon damage. They remain hopeful but cautious about the uncertain timeline for nerve healing and functional recovery. The family extended their heartfelt thanks for the continued support and care shown to their son and family throughout this challenging time.

Addenbrooke’s Hospital is under investigation for a potential breach of patient confidentiality after it was discovered that 40 staff members accessed the child’s medical records. Cambridge University Hospitals is looking into the matter and has self-reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office to determine the legitimacy of the record access.
