Donald Trump has announced the termination of all trade relations with Spain. The decision was made during a press briefing at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, where the US President directed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to cease all trade activities with the European nation.
Expressing his discontent with Spain’s role in NATO, Trump stated, “We no longer wish to engage in any trade dealings with Spain. They are not active participants and fail to fulfill financial obligations. I want nothing to do with Spain.”
In addition to cutting off trade with Spain, Trump also declared an end to the ceasefire with Iran following recent military actions in the Middle East. He expressed his frustration with Iran, labeling them as untrustworthy and unworthy of negotiations.
Despite Trump’s strong stance against Spain, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to the alliance. Rutte emphasized the importance of equalizing defense spending among NATO members to strengthen the collective security.
Trump highlighted his concerns regarding NATO during the summit, criticizing allies for their responses to global issues. He specifically mentioned challenges related to Greenland and past military operations in the Middle East, expressing disappointment in the support from some NATO members during critical times.
The US president also referenced past disagreements with the United Kingdom over military cooperation, indicating a need for improved collaboration within the alliance.
