“Man Shot in Legs Outside Chip Shop in Gang Feud”

An individual was shot in the legs outside his residence while heading to a nearby chip shop. The incident involved Daniel Lawless, who was seen displaying a shotgun to acquaintances in a pub car park before mistakenly shooting the victim amid ongoing disputes between rival groups. The victim, David Forbes, was targeted without any association to Lawless or his affiliates, resulting in severe injuries as he sought refuge in his home after the attack.

Lawless, dressed in dark attire and brandishing a shotgun, confronted Forbes on the evening of February 28 as Forbes was en route to the chip shop. The victim was shot in the legs, leading to hospitalization, multiple surgeries, and ongoing medical treatment due to the pellets embedded in his lower limbs. Lawless, with a history of violent offenses, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term for intentionally causing harm and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Despite expressing remorse and family support during the court proceedings, Lawless was deemed responsible for causing permanent harm to an innocent individual. The judge highlighted the seriousness of firearm possession and its potential to cause significant harm to the public. Lawless’s actions resulted in life-altering injuries to Forbes, impacting his physical abilities and livelihood. The court emphasized the gravity of Lawless’s criminal record and lack of compelling mitigating factors in handing down the sentence.
