Tragic Crash Claims Three Irish Lives in Spain

Three Irish individuals tragically lost their lives in a devastating collision involving a taxi and a car in southern Spain. The victims have been identified as Mark McCullagh, Michaela Newcombe, and Amy McCullagh, the wife of Mark’s brother Ian. The fatal accident occurred on the A7 motorway near Malaga around 2.30 am local time, when two vehicles collided, leading one of them to plunge down an embankment.

Ian McCullagh, another Irish national involved in the crash, survived but sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalized in Spain. All three deceased individuals hailed from Mullingar, Co Westmeath. Ian, 31, had recently married Amy in southern Spain in August 2024, as reported by the Irish Mirror.

Tributes have been pouring in for Michaela Newcombe, who served as the head receptionist at Havan Sun Mullingar beauty school. Described by friends as a kind-hearted and vibrant individual who always had a positive word for everyone she encountered, she is fondly remembered for her warm and caring nature.

The community, including local Sinn Féin councillor Julie McCourt, has been deeply impacted by the tragedy. McCourt expressed heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, emphasizing the profound loss felt by the entire Mullingar area and beyond. The town is united in holding them in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
