“Man Jailed for Brutal Assaults at Manchester Airport”

A man, identified as Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, has been sentenced to three years and six months in prison for assaulting two female police officers and headbutting a man at Manchester Airport. Amaaz attacked PC Lydia Ward, causing her nose to break, and also assaulted PC Ellie Cook by throwing punches, elbow strikes, and a kick on July 23, 2024.

During the trial at Liverpool Crown Court, Sgt Ward expressed her fear and trauma from the attack, describing it as “utterly terrifying and cowardly.” She detailed the impact on her physical and emotional well-being, questioning the senselessness of the violence and its lasting effects on her life.

PC Cook, a firearms officer at the airport, revealed how the assault had profoundly changed her life, leading to physical ailments like jaw pain, headaches, and sleep disturbances. She highlighted the emotional toll and the decision to step away from her role due to the trauma inflicted by the attack.

The prosecution emphasized the severity of Amaaz’s actions, stating that he delivered multiple blows to PC Cook, and only intervention prevented further violence. The incident, witnessed by children, including the victims’ family members, left a lasting impact on all involved.

In his defense, Amaaz’s legal team portrayed him as a caring individual, emphasizing his family’s positive testimonials and his charitable endeavors. They argued that the attack was a response to what he perceived as a threat to his family, not premeditated aggression.

Despite the claims of self-defense, Amaaz was found guilty of multiple charges related to the assaults on the officers and the man at the airport. The legal proceedings surrounding the case involved complex deliberations, with one of Amaaz’s brothers also facing charges that were eventually dropped.

The trial shed light on the gravity of the incident and its repercussions, prompting ongoing investigations by the police watchdog. The impact of the violence on the victims, their families, and the broader community underscores the need for accountability and justice in cases of assault on law enforcement officers.
