Jet2 has issued a response following the unfortunate death of a passenger during a flight to Manchester Airport. The passenger, identified as Callum Kerr, aged 35 and from Warrington, was on board flight LS966 from Larnaca, Cyprus, with his girlfriend on Sunday night. Witnesses informed the Manchester Evening News that Kerr had exhibited disruptive behavior during the flight, allegedly due to pre-flight alcohol consumption.
Upon arrival at Manchester Airport, Greater Manchester Police were alerted at 2:25 am on Monday regarding a report of a man acting aggressively towards passengers and crew. Passengers had already restrained Kerr before police intervention. Despite officers using handcuffs to control him, Kerr became unresponsive. CPR was administered before he was transported to the hospital, where he sadly passed away on Tuesday afternoon.
A spokesperson from Jet2 expressed condolences to Kerr’s family and friends, acknowledging his passing and refraining from further comment pending ongoing investigations.
In a later update, Greater Manchester Police disclosed that they had referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for investigation into the officers’ actions. Additionally, the Major Incident Team within the police force is examining the circumstances surrounding the event.
Notably, Kerr was not under arrest, and no arrests were made. The police had received reports of assaults, one against a fellow passenger and another against a cabin crew member. Kerr’s family, through a statement relayed by the police, described him as a family-oriented individual, a father of three children, a sports enthusiast, and a kind-hearted person.
