Pub owner Frank Collins recently celebrated his 97th birthday with multiple pints, proudly claiming the title of the oldest barkeeper in the country. Taking over the family business at the age of 68, Frank expressed his joy in continuing to work behind the bar as long as he finds it enjoyable, highlighting the companionship it brings.
Following his father’s footsteps, who acquired the Dog & Partridge in Sowood, West Yorkshire in 1955 but tragically passed away before its opening, Frank’s mother, Mabel, stepped in to run the pub. Transitioning from his previous job as a designer in the textile industry, Frank took on the responsibility of managing the pub full-time after his mother moved into a care home.
With a long history of involvement in the pub industry, Frank expressed contentment with his career choice, emphasizing that pub life has been his lifelong passion. Recognized for his exceptional service by the Halifax and Calderdale branch of Camra, Frank recently marked his 97th birthday with a small gathering, humorously mentioning that the first pint was on him, followed by the next ten on his guests.
