Former President Donald Trump attributed the failures in the recent $14 million renovation of the Lincoln Memorial’s reflecting pool to “vandals,” although no evidence was provided to support this claim. The refurbishment, managed by companies responsible for maintaining swimming pools in Trump’s hotels, aimed to resurface the pool in an “American Flag Blue” color. However, the project faced multiple issues, including a delayed reopening, costs significantly exceeding initial estimates, and rapid algae growth turning the water green.
The cause of the algae infestation remains uncertain, with speculation suggesting residual algae in the pipes or inadequate repairs to the filtration system during the renovation. Additionally, a portion of the resurfacing material began peeling off shortly after completion, with some tourists taking pieces as souvenirs.
While vandalism was reported in another area near the Washington Monument, there is no proven connection to the issues at the reflecting pool. Trump’s claims of deliberate sabotage were refuted by video evidence showing a reporter merely touching the peeling material, not attempting to damage it further.
Trump assured the public that efforts were underway to address the problems, with plans to fully resolve the algae issue and repair the damaged areas. He pointed fingers at the “Radical Left Lunatics,” insinuating their involvement in attempting to undermine the renovation project.
