An unfolding incident at an international airport has resulted in gunfire targeting travelers, leading to at least one fatality. Video footage from Ecuador’s José Joaquín de Olmedo airport depicts a scene of chaos, with distraught individuals tending to the wounded and deceased.
Reports indicate that on Wednesday, June 17, an armed attack took place near the entrance of Guayaquil’s international airport, resulting in one person’s death and another individual being wounded. The assault, believed to be an assassination attempt, occurred in the airport’s international arrivals departure area, where gunmen targeted the victims.
Allegedly, the deceased individual, suspected to be the intended target, had recently arrived at the Ecuadorian airport with his wife when the attack took place. The injured victim has been swiftly transported to a hospital for medical attention. Following the incident, Ecuador’s Ministry of the Interior disclosed that two suspects were arrested in the airport terminal’s parking vicinity.
This violent incident comes on the heels of Ecuador declaring a state of emergency for ten provinces due to a surge in gang violence and organized criminal activities. Further updates are anticipated as the situation unfolds.
