Three inmates are currently on trial at Leeds Crown Court for the murder of Kyle Bevan, a notorious child killer. Bevan, who was responsible for the death of his stepdaughter, two-year-old Lola James, was stabbed 25 times in his cell at HMP Wakefield last November.
The accused inmates, Lee Newell, David Taylor, and Mark Fellows, allegedly carried out the attack with precision and efficiency. Bevan, a vulnerable prisoner, was known to the defendants who were housed on a lower floor in the same wing.
According to the prosecutor, there was heightened interaction among the defendants leading up to the incident, indicating premeditation. Following the stabbing, Taylor reportedly made comments suggesting satisfaction with the outcome, including a statement referring to “nice working with you and the iceman.”
During the trial, the prosecutor highlighted the defendants’ previous murder convictions as indicative of their propensity for such crimes. He emphasized that while past offenses should not be the sole basis for conviction, they can support the prosecution’s case.
The prosecutor described the attack as swift and calculated, lasting less than five minutes. He emphasized the defendants’ refusal to testify and their reliance on the prosecution to prove their innocence, suggesting a lack of contradictory evidence.
The trial is ongoing as the court examines the circumstances surrounding Bevan’s death and the actions of the accused inmates.
