At least 17 individuals sustained injuries when a sightseeing train overturned in the city of Cartama, Spain. The incident occurred in Cartama, approximately 10 miles away from Malaga, around 9.30pm local time on Saturday.
Images from the scene depict the train carriage lying on its side on Santo Cristo road. The exact cause of the accident remains unknown, though authorities have confirmed that the train flipped over while crossing.
Emergency responders tended to over a dozen injured individuals on-site. Four individuals, including three children, were later transported to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, none of the injuries are believed to be severe.
Reports indicate that around 30 people were on the train when the incident took place. Following the event, the train service has been halted for the weekend, and law enforcement has initiated an inquiry.
The tourist train was part of the local event “la Ruta de la Tapa y el Coctel,” aimed at promoting exploration of various businesses in the city and sampling their offerings. This annual festival, running from June 10 to 14, involves the train stopping at multiple venues, with visitors provided maps indicating these locations.
Cartama is situated near the popular destinations of Malaga and Marbella, frequented by many British tourists.
