Lady Pamela Hicks, a close friend of the late Queen who served as a bridesmaid at her wedding to Prince Philip, has been laid to rest after passing away at the age of 97. The funeral took place at Bartholomew Church in Wallingford, Oxfordshire. Lady Pamela, the daughter of Lord Mountbatten and a cousin of Prince Philip, was a long-time lady-in-waiting for Queen Elizabeth II. She had accompanied the Queen to Kenya when she learned of her father’s death and ascended to the throne.
Family members, including her daughter India, gathered to pay their final respects at the funeral service. The ceremony coincided with the conclusion of the King’s official birthday parade in London, with no royal family members present. However, the King expressed his sorrow at Lady Pamela’s passing, praising her loyalty and service to Queen Elizabeth.
Lady Pamela, born in April 1929, was the youngest daughter of Lord Mountbatten and Edwina Ashley. She was a bridesmaid at Princess Elizabeth’s wedding in 1947 and later married David Hicks in a prominent ceremony. Despite facing personal tragedies, including the loss of her father to an IRA bomb and her husband to cancer, Lady Pamela remained a devoted friend of the late Queen. She was the oldest living descendant of Queen Victoria and attended the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.
Lady Pamela’s life was depicted in the TV series “The Crown,” where her daughter India praised the portrayal. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, wit, and loyal service to the Royal Family.
