West Derby Woman Arrested for Man’s Death & Animal Cruelty

A West Derby woman has been taken into custody under suspicion of manslaughter following the discovery of a deceased man and multiple dogs at a residence in West Derby.

Merseyside Police responded to a call around 6.10pm on Friday reporting the death of a man in his 70s at a property on Coachmans Drive. The circumstances surrounding the man’s demise are currently unclear, and investigations are underway to uncover the full details.

The 55-year-old woman, also from West Derby, has been apprehended on suspicion of manslaughter, ill-treatment or neglect of a person under care, and inflicting unnecessary harm on an animal. She has been conditionally released pending further investigation.

Upon arrival at the scene, emergency services discovered several dogs within the premises, some of which had tragically perished. Authorities maintained a presence at the location through Sunday, with a tent set up by the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

A post-mortem examination has been conducted, and toxicology tests are in progress, as per the police. Efforts are ongoing to locate the deceased man’s next of kin, and individuals who may have information on his identity are urged to come forward.

Temporary Detective Chief Superintendent Helen Bennett expressed condolences to the deceased man’s family and urged the public to refrain from speculation to allow for a thorough investigation. Despite an arrest made in connection to the case, authorities are appealing for individuals with relevant information to provide assistance.

An RSPCA spokesperson mentioned collaboration with Merseyside Police on the matter, emphasizing limitations on sharing information due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
