A second earthquake has shaken a village in the UK, causing residents to describe it as feeling like a distant explosion. The 2.2 magnitude tremor struck Silverdale, Lancashire, at 9:35 pm on Saturday night, as reported by the British Geological Survey (BGS).
Locals in Grange-over-Sands and Bolton-le-Sands also felt the impact of the earthquake, with some mentioning a big thud and burst of noise similar to an explosion. This event follows a 2.3 magnitude earthquake on May 13 and a smaller 0.4 magnitude tremor on April 12 in the same area.
Several earthquakes have occurred in the region since the end of 2025, including multiple in December and more in February and March this year, according to Lancashire Live. Social media was abuzz with comments from residents who were surprised by the latest tremor, with one individual asking, “Another earthquake just happened?”
The BGS shared information on Facebook about the earthquake, stating that it was felt in the Morecambe Bay area, with reports of a big thud, distant explosion-like sensations, and bursts of noise. Residents, including James Black and Neil Wood, shared their experiences online, with one noting a loud bang and another mentioning that their entire tower shook.
Various individuals like Jane Caldwell, Victoria Kaye Holt, and others mentioned feeling the effects of the earthquake in different locations. The seismic activity has prompted some residents to humorously claim, “We must be the earthquake center of the UK!”
