Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reached out to Russian President Vladimir Putin, proposing a direct meeting to seek an end to the ongoing conflict. In his letter, Zelenskyy expressed concern over the toll the war has taken, mentioning a report indicating significant casualties among Russian soldiers in May.
Zelenskyy dismissed the idea of meeting in Moscow, suggesting neutral locations like Switzerland, Turkey, or an Arab country for the potential summit. He emphasized the importance of leaders coming together to address critical issues and called for the participation of European and US representatives to ensure security guarantees.
Towards the end of the letter, Zelenskyy hinted at a challenging future for Putin, suggesting that the Russian leader may face increasing opposition as the conflict wears on in Russia. Putin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, responded by reiterating the invitation for Zelenskyy to visit Moscow for a meeting with Putin.
