A tragedy struck as a young man lost his life after being involved in a violent incident and subsequently entering a river to escape. Thomas Griffin, aged 32 and a boxer, suffered injuries from a suspected assault at the War Memorial Gardens near Islandbridge, west Dublin, on Saturday night. Despite efforts from emergency services, Thomas passed away in the hospital.
The Griffin family from Ballyfermot mourned the loss of Thomas, just 12 years after the fatal stabbing of his younger brother, James, at a club event. Known as ‘Jay,’ James was attacked and fatally wounded, leaving his family devastated. Thomas, who shared a deep passion for boxing and trained at St Matthews Boxing Club in Ballyfermot, received heartfelt tributes from the community.
Notable figures like professional boxer Luke Keeler and local councillor Daithi Doolan expressed their condolences for the Griffin family. Daithi Doolan emphasized the importance of finding answers surrounding Thomas’ tragic death and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to aid the investigation.
