Billionaire Elon Musk, the owner of SpaceX, has commented on Jeff Bezos’ recent space setback involving the explosion of the Blue Origin New Glenn rocket. The incident took place during a static fire test at Launch Complex 36 of the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida.
Musk, sharing his thoughts on his social media platform X, simply stated, “Most unfortunate. Rockets are hard.” Blue Origin later issued a statement acknowledging the anomaly during the hotfire test and confirmed the safety of all personnel, promising updates as more information becomes available.
The explosion occurred around 9 pm local time on May 28, with video footage capturing the detonation at the rocket’s base, followed by a rapid spread of smoke and subsequent blasts engulfing the spacecraft in a bright yellow fireball. Bezos reassured that all personnel were safe and expressed determination to investigate and address the root cause of the incident.
NASA has not released an official statement yet, but footage circulating online shows the explosion and subsequent fireball engulfing the rocket. Subcommittee chair Mike Haridopolos from the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology extended gratitude to the responders and personnel involved in managing the situation swiftly.
