Renowned skier Lindsey Vonn suffered a crash during the women’s downhill alpine skiing final at the Winter Olympics on Sunday. The 41-year-old athlete had returned to competition just nine days after sustaining a left ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Vonn’s comeback took a tragic turn as she crashed early in her run, requiring immediate medical attention. Audiences watched in silence as she was attended to by medical staff, visibly distressed and in pain. She was subsequently airlifted on a stretcher, likely to a nearby medical facility.
Commentator Graham Bell expressed shock at the incident, highlighting Vonn’s determination and the risks she took to compete. Former British skier Chemmy Alcott, who raced with Vonn, emotionally commented on the situation, expressing sadness at the unexpected turn of events.
Vonn had previously been airlifted to a hospital in January after suffering a similar injury. Despite a remarkable recovery, her hopes for a successful Olympic return were dashed by the recent crash.
The competition was briefly halted following Vonn’s accident, and shortly after, another skier, Cande Moreno, also suffered a crash on a challenging section of the course.
Sky has announced a discount on its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle, offering a significant reduction in price and an increased number of live sports matches for the upcoming season.
