An inquiry is in progress following an alleged sexual assault on a young woman outside a cemetery during daylight hours on Christmas Eve. The victim, aged in her twenties, was reportedly assaulted in a wooded section near Castle Green Cemetery in Ironbridge, Telford, between 9:45 a.m. and 11:25 a.m. on December 24. West Mercia Police received a report of the incident on Monday.
Authorities are endeavoring to identify a man believed to be the suspect. The individual is described as white, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with short dark hair, and was said to be clad in dark jeans and a black coat during the time of the occurrence.
Detective Constable Victoria Periton stated, “I acknowledge that this information may cause anxiety within the local community. Rest assured, we are treating this incident with utmost seriousness and are pursuing all leads diligently.”
She further added, “Law enforcement officials are diligently working to establish the identity of the suspect, and we urge individuals who were in the vicinity on Christmas Eve between 9:45 a.m. and 11:25 a.m., or who may possess information about the suspect, to promptly reach out to the police.”
Periton emphasized, “It is important to refrain from speculation, and we encourage those with concerns to communicate with the authorities. The victim is receiving support from specially trained officers.”
