A train crash involving 16 passengers and a crane has occurred in south-east Spain. Emergency services are on-site in Alumbres near Murcia, responding to the incident. The extent of injuries is currently unknown.
This incident follows a recent tragic train accident in Spain. Over the weekend, 43 individuals lost their lives and many more were injured when two high-speed trains collided in Adamuz, Cordoba. Shortly after, another train accident near Barcelona resulted in the death of the driver and injuries to 37 passengers, with five in serious condition.
According to a spokesperson from the Murcia region’s emergency services, the train did not overturn or derail during the collision, which occurred around midday local time in the Los Partidarios area.
This collision comes in the wake of two other recent train disasters in southern Spain. In a separate incident near Barcelona, a commuter train derailed, resulting in the death of the driver and injuries to 37 passengers, five of whom are in serious condition.
Reportedly, a narrow-gauge FEVE train traveling from Cartagena to Los Nietos collided with a crane arm, as per local TV channel La 7. The extent of injuries is still being determined, but they are believed to be minor. The train’s operator mentioned that the crane arm obstructed the track, with the train traveling at a speed of 70 to 80 km/h at the time.
