A truck has collided with pedestrians multiple times in a town, accompanied by the sound of gunshots and the presence of emergency services on the scene.
This incident occurred in Gangkou, Zhongshan, China, where reports indicate that the driver intentionally struck individuals while gunshots were heard. Several videos are circulating, showing a white van being driven recklessly and crashing into other vehicles on the wrong side of the road.
One video appears to depict a person on the ground, with the van reversing before moving forward to hit the individual. Subsequently, an emergency services vehicle with flashing lights arrives at the scene. Throughout the video, shouts and screams can be heard in response to the actions of the truck driver.
Another video shows police cars blocking the van, which still attempts to escape. Bystanders are seen hitting the van’s windows until they manage to gain access and pull out the driver.
Although various social media reports have surfaced about the incident, the police have not issued an official statement. It is alleged that the truck driver tried to breach a blockade, prompting police to fire at the vehicle in an effort to halt its progress. As the truck attempted to flee, it struck pedestrians on the street, including an individual riding an electric bike.
Gangkou, situated in Guangdong province, is an urban area known for its port-based commerce in southern China. Many individuals on social media have expressed outrage toward the truck driver, drawing parallels to a tragic event in Zhuhai, where 38 people lost their lives and 48 were injured in November 2024 when a driver plowed into a crowd exercising at a sports center.
During the Zhuhai incident, bodies were scattered on the ground, and witnesses provided assistance to the injured individuals until emergency services arrived. The distressing scene unfolded outside Zhuhai Sports Centre, with reports indicating that the injured individuals were part of a group of middle-aged and elderly individuals engaged in physical activity on the track.
In an official statement, the police remarked, “A passenger car struck multiple pedestrians at the sports center in Xiangzhou District of Zhuhai City and fled the scene.” The driver was later identified as Fan Weiqiu, who was dissatisfied with a divorce settlement and had attempted to take his own life with a knife.
