A man confessed to police that he lost control and fatally attacked his sister by stabbing her in the neck and then setting her on fire outside her daughter’s bedroom. The tragic incident took place in Randalstown, Northern Ireland, where Kornelijus Bracas carried out the brutal act on Alesia Nazarova in her own home.
Alesia Nazarova, aged 37, tragically lost her life in the horrific attack, while her 12-year-old daughter was fortunately rescued and taken to a hospital for treatment. Bracas explained to authorities that he reached a breaking point after a heated argument with his sister, during which she yelled at him.
Details of the gruesome murder emerged during a court hearing in Belfast. Emergency services responded to the scene on March 21, 2023, finding Bracas had set multiple seats on fire inside the house. Despite their efforts, Ms. Nazarova could not be saved, as she had sustained severe burns covering 60% of her body and multiple stab wounds to her neck and abdomen.
Prosecutors revealed that Alesia was still alive when her brother ignited the fire, inflicting fatal injuries on her. The siblings, originally from Lithuania, were living together after Bracas had conflicts with their parents, and Ms. Nazarova had taken him in.
Following the crime, Bracas was apprehended near a Tesco car park in Portadown, where he was found with his sister’s bank card, which he had used to make purchases. In subsequent police interviews, Bracas confessed to the murder, arson, and theft, detailing how he strangled his sister, stabbed her, and set her body on fire in a fit of rage.
Bracas also admitted to starting a fire near his niece’s bedroom and expressed feelings of being unappreciated and mistreated by his sister. His criminal history included prior convictions for assaulting his parents and harming a pet cat.
Facing the charges of murder, arson, and theft, Bracas pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing, with prosecutors recommending a substantial term due to the severity of his actions.
