“Winter Hazard: Popular Electric Blanket Recalled”

A widely-used winter product has been promptly recalled due to significant safety issues.

The GoodHome Saturnia Electric Blanket, distributed by B&Q, has been found to contain a faulty electrical component that can lead to overheating, potentially causing fires and electric shock hazards. The recall notice states that if the blanket’s controller overheats and melts, it could expose live parts, posing a risk of electric shock to the user. This beige blanket, available for purchase between November 2024 and December 2025, can be identified by the barcode 5059340980560.

Due to non-compliance with the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016, the blanket has been withdrawn from all consumers. Owners are advised to discontinue its use immediately, disconnect it, and return it to the nearest B&Q store for a complete refund. For additional details, individuals can refer to B&Q’s recall page or contact B&Q Customer Services at 0300 303 4482.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) recently provided safety guidelines for utilizing electric blankets. Emphasizing the importance of caution, LFB highlighted that while electric blankets offer an affordable means to stay warm and snug, users must ensure their safety before using them during the winter season.

LFB cautions against using an electric blanket under the following conditions:

– The blanket is damaged or shows signs of wear and tear.
– The power cord is frayed or damaged.
– The blanket has been folded or creased, potentially damaging the internal wiring.
