Dramatic video footage captures the intense moment when US forces raided an oil tanker near the Venezuelan coast amidst escalating tensions between the two nations. US Attorney General Pam Bondi accused the vessel, known as “The Skipper,” of participating in an illicit oil shipping network aiding foreign terrorist groups. The short clip shows US military helicopters approaching the tanker and troops descending onto the deck using ropes.
The FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Coast Guard, with assistance from the US military, executed a seizure warrant for the vessel. Bondi stated that the operation was conducted safely, and investigations regarding the transportation of sanctioned oil are ongoing.
President Trump confirmed the seizure, describing it as the largest tanker ever seized off the coast of Venezuela. The exact location of the interception remains undisclosed. This incident signifies a significant escalation in tensions between Trump and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, particularly since the US has stationed a naval force of nearly 15,000 troops in the Caribbean since September. US military strikes on alleged drug boats have resulted in the deaths of over 80 individuals.
Unlike previous actions involving drug boats, this operation targeted an oil shipment, a crucial revenue source for Maduro’s administration. The seizure occurred after Trump imposed a 25% tariff on all goods imported into the US from nations purchasing oil or gas from Venezuela.
Maduro has not yet responded to this latest escalation but has consistently denied involvement in drug trafficking. He has accused the US of using the war on drugs as a pretext to remove him from power and seize Venezuela’s vast oil reserves, estimated at over 300 billion barrels, representing around 20% of the global oil supply.
In a recent statement, Trump hinted at potential military strikes on Venezuelan land targets as part of the intensified war on drugs in Latin America. While he did not confirm whether US troops would enter Venezuela, he asserted that Maduro’s time in office is limited.
