A tragic incident in Tadcaster resulted in the loss of a sixth form student named Eleanor Hague, known as Ellie, in a minibus collision. The 16-year-old student from Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire, was involved in a crash between a minibus and a car on Monday.
Ellie, a student at Tadcaster Grammar School, was a passenger in a Mercedes Sprinter minibus that collided with a Hyundai i10 car on Toulston Lane. The minibus, carrying nine passengers aged 16 to 18 from Tadcaster Grammar School and Sherburn High School, was traveling towards Sherburn when the car entered Toulston Lane from Rudgate.
Tragically, Ellie lost her life at the scene of the accident, while another teenage girl sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. The other passengers and the minibus driver suffered minor injuries, and the driver of the Hyundai, a 40-year-old woman from Leeds, was arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving.
Following the incident, the police have reopened Toulston Lane and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
